After the visit of the Hungarian delegation accompanied by the Prime Minister of Hungary, Mr. Viktor Orban, Iran and Hungary agreed to annually offer a number of doctoral scholarships to each other’s students.

Hungary accepts 100 Iranian students annually for scholarships, provided they meet the necessary criteria.

Students interested in receiving scholarships should register on the website of the Ministry of Education of Hungary in the Scholarship section and submit their documents for scholarship consideration.

Registration for the Hungary Scholarship System:

Registration in the Hungary Scholarship System is open every year from February to May. It is important to note that student registration in the scholarship system of Hungary is considered as the initial registration, and there is no commitment to provide scholarships to Iranian students.

The evaluation of students’ academic documents and the final acceptance of scholarships will be announced based on the academic and educational conditions of the student. Students applying for doctoral studies who have a high academic level and English language qualifications will be eligible for Hungary scholarships.

Having documents such as published scientific articles in international journals such as ISI and presenting effective research theses and proposals is valuable. Students with good academic qualifications and who are among the researchers have a better chance of receiving scholarships.

An English language certificate with an IELTS score of 6.5 and TOEFL score of 90 is required. Providing detailed scores and a certificate of the last academic degree with a GPA of over 75% is influential.

Required Documents for Scholarships in Hungary:

  1. A motivation letter, at least one page long, written in Times New Roman font size 12, with a minimum of 300 words, demonstrating sufficient proficiency in the English language relevant to the study program.
  2. Official translation of the graduation certificate and transcript with verification from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. Official translation of the transcript of the most recent academic degree with verification from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  4. A valid passport copy with a minimum of 18 months of validity.

These documents should be uploaded to the Scholarship Department’s website and approved by the application center.

For doctoral students, a research proposal of at least two pages, along with a motivation letter and recommendation letters from two professors, must be provided.

If the applicant has studied in English in their previous educational levels, there is no need to provide an IELTS or TOEFL certificate.

A certificate of physical health from a specialist physician for epidemic diseases, hepatitis A, B, C, HIV, and a chest X-ray may also be required.

Submitting a Scholarship Application to the Tempus Foundation of Hungary:

After submission, the applications are reviewed by relevant officials at the Scholarship Department. Following the submission, a general assessment of the eligibility of the applicants’ requests takes place.

Experts at the Tempus Foundation of Hungary evaluate and score the applications based on various criteria. In the final stage, the results of the review are communicated to the relevant organizations or to the students themselves.

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program

To Apply for Erasmus Scholarships, you must submit your application along with complete documentation to your local Erasmus International Office.

CEEPUS Scholarship Program – Central European Exchange Program for University Studies

The CEEPUS program aims to promote student and teacher mobility at all levels of education in Central and Southeastern Europe. Students can pursue a study program abroad, while teachers can engage in academic activities at partner universities.

These opportunities are designed to strengthen professional and personal relationships among researchers in Central Europe. In Hungary, this program is managed by the Tempus Public Foundation.

Member countries include Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Requirements for applying for a CEEPUS scholarship at a Hungarian higher education institution:

  1. You must be a registered student or teacher at a reputable university/college in any of the other CEEPUS countries.
  2. To be eligible for financial assistance, you must complete a minimum of two terms of study.

CEEPUS Scholarships and Financial Aid for Teachers:

If you have a different nationality but are a student or teacher in one of the member countries and meet the criteria, you can apply. If you are a citizen of one of the CEEPUS member countries but study or teach in another country, you are eligible to apply.

The duration of the scholarship for students may not exceed 10 months for BA and MA programs.

EEA Scholarship Program

Currently, EEA scholarships and financial aid are not being offered. The EEA Economic Scholarship Program operates within the framework of EEA financial contributions aimed at reducing economic and social inequalities and strengthening bilateral cooperation between Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and beneficiary countries, such as Hungary.

Under this type of scholarship, during your studies in Hungary, you have the right to receive a one-time travel allowance of 500 euros and a monthly allowance of 400 euros. If you participate in a summer school program, you will also receive 900 EUR for your entire stay, including travel expenses.

Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) Scholarship:

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) accepts international students for applied programs and research studies in the MTA field. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) initiated the scholarship program in October 2018, and in early 2021, to provide opportunities to researchers with high academic degrees from outstanding foreign universities.

MTA, as a scientific organization, comprises nearly 17,000 individuals and serves as a legal entity and a network of full-time research personnel. It is considered one of the country’s principal scientific domains in Hungary.
